How to pay attention in Finnish

Here's a small post about paying attention to something in Finnish, kiinnittää huomiota. Kiinni is closed or shut. Kiinnittää is to attach. Huomio is attention. The case government follows the same logic as English, so you should have the adverbial in illative.

• Kiinnittäkää huomiota tähän. - Pay attention to this. (A command for many people.)
• Kiinnitä huomiota siihen, kuinka hän keskustelee sotaveteraanien kanssa. - Pay attention to (it) how he talks with the war veterans. (Yes, I'm talking about the Linnan juhlat on 6.12!)
• Minä kiinnitin huomiota vain hänen kenkiinsä. - I just paid attention to his shoes. (Mä kiinnitin vaan huomiota sen kenkiin in colloqual Finnish.)
• En kiinnittänyt huomiota tuollaisiin yksityiskohtiin. - I didn't pay attention to such details.
